 CHAPEL OF THE SACRED HEART

The private Chapel Of the Sacred Heart began construction in 2009 and was completed in 2010.  The idea of building this chapel came about from one family's tragedy and arose a beautiful story of family, friendship, loss and the promise to a special little girl.  It all began in 1980 when one man, Ricky L. Giannetti made a promise to his young daughter, Tina, who was very ill.  He promised to build her a chapel. Young Tina never saw the chapel herself since she died at the tender age of eight years old.  However, Ricky L. Giannetti knew in his heart that he would one day build that chapel in memory of his daughter and for all those who suffered from broken hearts, as well.

Several years passed since the death of his daughter.  One day Ricky attended mass where he met Father Philemon. Ricky was inspired by his preaching.  When mass ended, Ricky knew he just had to introduce himself to Father Phil.  Ricky was awestruck by Father Phil's humility and kindness.  From that day forward they became the closest of friends.  Ricky shared with Fr. Phil how passionate he was on building his private chapel, among many other things.

In 2010, Ricky L. Giannetti was battling cancer, he knew he had a limited amount of time to finish his promise to his beloved deceased daughter.  The journey of completing the building of the private chapel continued. Ricky, his sons, son-in-law and several other close friends built the chapel on his beautiful 40 acre property in Metamora, Michigan.  They began by using the existing outside handmade stone altar.  The altar already outside was used for Holy Masses celebrated by various priests, on every First Saturday of each month at 3.00PM Holy Hour of Mercy.  The existing altar stones were gathered from the private property. The altar itself was built by Ricky and his four sons in 1980 as a tribute to his beloved daughter.

Ricky, who was terminally ill would visit the private chapel daily.  Ricky would lay ill on a constructed make-shift bed in the chapel.  He constantly was making sure the construction of the chapel was fit to his ideal for his vision.  He entrusted  the private chapel to Fr Phil as Chaplain and Director.  Ricky often had a very heavy heart and was extremely unsure if he would ever be able to pray  and attend service in his chapel, due to his illness.  Ricky named the building "Chapel of the Sacred Heart."

While working with his son in the chapel a few weeks before the building was finished, he was often heard saying to his youngest son, Silvio, "I think we will make it."  Ricky knew that there was not much time he had left  physically here on earth.  Ricky just wanted to be able to pray in the chapel and see the building complete.  On April 4th, 2010 Ricky's last wish and promise to his daughter came true.  It was Easter, and it was the very first mass celebrated in the Chapel of the Sacred Heart in Metamora, Michigan. Ricky's wish came true and his whole family attended the mass with him.  Just before the mass started, Ricky made a simple announcement and thanked everyone for coming.  It was a beautiful mass and tears filled many eyes.  Ricky was surrounded by family and friends and it was Ricky's first  and last mass he would ever attend at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart.  Later that night, Ricky left this world to be with God.

The Private Chapel of the Sacred Heart is located at 5220 Hosner Road, Metamora, Michigan 48455.  Pictured below is a plaque located on the outside of the chapel that Ricky designed in memory of his daughter. It is a symbolically memorable welcome sign to all who attend.  The plaque reads:

"Chapel of The Sacred Heart, For The Promises Made, For The Favors Granted, For The Wisdom & Knowledge To Understand 1980-2010"

at the family's request the chapel still has the make-shift bed that Ricky laid in while the chapel was being built. It is a reminder of Ricky and his determination to see his promise fulfilled.  The chapel is open 24-7 to those who go in to pray. It is a quiet place for all to retreat and pray.  It is also the meeting place for Healing Hearts Outreach, a charitable non-profit organization, that was founded in 2008.  To learn more about Healing Hearts Outreach and to see how this organization is still continuing to help others all around the world... click onto our Healing Hearts Outreach page or click on the link below.
